Vanderbilt Homes and Didcot Road Traffic Calming

Some residents have asked if it is worth objecting?  Well, yes it is!  You may think that objecting to new developments in the village is not worth the bother as no-one takes any notice.

Going, Going, Gone!

In gale force winds and rain, the last remnant of Didcot Power Station, the 654 feet chimney, came crashing to the ground yesterday morning (9th February).

It was the end of an era for the coal-fired power station – victim of the drive toward a green, fossil-free future for energy.

Preparing for Storm Ciara

Residents will be aware that Storm Ciara is on the way and it is likely that there will be high winds and heavy rain across the East of England and South East this weekend.

Didcot Road Works Consultation Deadline

The deadline for comments on Oxfordshire Council Council’s (OCC) plans to realign the Didcot Road, install a zebra crossing and new traffic calming, to facilitate the Vanderbilt housing development on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside is Friday 14th February.

Residents should receive a leaflet about the proposals through their letter boxes in the next couple of days, and you can also read it here.

OCC to Debate Motion to Accept Planning Powers Stripped from SODC

Next Tuesday (11th February), Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) will debate whether to accept a transfer of planning powers from South Oxfordshire County Council (SODC) if the Secretary of State for Housing offers it to them.  The meeting starts at 10.30am in County Hall, Oxford.

The Parish Council has been asked to publicise this meeting by our District Councillor, Sam Casey-Rerhaye, who believes that it is crucial to demonstrate opposition to this overriding of a democratic mandate as well as to the plan itself. Continue reading

VE Day 75th Anniversary Celebrations

SODC New Offices Exhibition

South Oxfordshire District Council’s (SODC) plans to move back to their site in Crowmarsh Gifford have moved a step closer after the fire that destroyed its former headquarters in 2015.

On Thursday 13th February, South Oxfordshire residents are invited to an exhibition and feedback day where they can see the design for the new building and hear how their previous feedback has helped to inform its specifications.

Moonrakers – Saturday 4th April

Residents who enjoy traditional Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English music will be excited to hear that the Friends of St Mary’s have booked the Celtic music group Moonrakers to perform at St Mary’s Church on Saturday 4th April starting at 7:30pm.

District Councils Target Litter

Waste enforcement officers from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils are heading out to a series of events this month, where they will meet the public to talk about littering.  They have also put together a top ten list of excuses given to them by people caught in the act.
