Big Picnic Lunch Success

A huge thank you to the organisers of the inaugural Long Wittenham Big Picnic Lunch which took place at Bodkins Field yesterday afternoon.  A good turn out of approximately one hundred and fifty villagers and fine weather made it a great success and a splendid time was had by all.

Acklings Rabbit Holes!

A rabbit burrow has been identified on the football pitch at Acklings Playground.  There are several holes in the pitch which could be dangerous to anyone playing there.  Rabbits have been seen grazing on the field which confirms that the population is active.

Wittfest 2019

Only a little under two weeks to go until the annual Long Wittenham Music Festival at The Plough Inn on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July.

SODC Land Supply Statement

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has published its housing land supply statement for the monitoring year 2019/20.

The statement confirms the number of homes that developers have built in the district in 2018/19, and how many are expected to be built over the next five years.  It also compares this supply against the housing need for the next five years.

Community Hub Update

Residents will recall that there was a village meeting in April at which it was explained that the developers are getting near to submitting a planning application for the Community Hub and associated works at the current Village Hall and School sites.

House of Wessex Anglo-Saxon Open Days

As part of the Sylva Foundation’s House of Wessex project, Anglo-Saxon open days are planned for the first weekend of July at the Sylva Wood Centre.

Visitors can watch the House of Wessex being constructed, have a go at Anglo-Saxon thatching, play traditional games, and see other traditional crafts on display. Continue reading

SSEN Electricity Outages

The Parish Council has been contacted by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) to say that it is aware that our area has sustained multiple faults over the last year.

Safari Supper

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Safari Supper which will take place on Saturday 14th September.   It is organised by the Wittenham Warriors and proceeds will go to good causes in the village.

Tickets are £15 per person for hosts and £20 per person for everyone else.  Hosts cover the cost of the food for their course and Wittenham Warriors provide the wine. Continue reading

Boathouse Plans Approved

Plans for a boathouse on Maddy Moorings for Headington School have been approved by South Oxfordshire District Council.  The moorings are between High Street and the River Thames towards Clifton Hampden, opposite Lower Farm.  Headington is an independent girls’ school in Oxford, founded in 1915.

The plans include a two storey boathouse, wet dock, landing stages and associated works.  Continue reading
